  • Getting rid of cigarette smoke smell in Car

Long story short, found an Acura MDX up in OKC that is priced about $4000 below KBB. Only issue is cracking in drivers leather seat and it was a smokers car.

The smell is medium, not a 5 packs a day type smell, but it is present.

Anyone know of any business that will run an ozone generator in it or CL02 bomb the interior so I can get rid of the smell permanently?

Or any ideas on best way to get rid of smells (ways that worked for you and lasted)

    Thanks in advance.

Throw a pissed off skunk in there for a few days. You'll never smell smoke again.

I'll mark that as "Backup plan"

Pour some unused coffee grounds into a tupperware bowl or something, leave it in the car for a while. They absorb the most obnoxious odors and do not leave it smelling like coffee!

X2 coffee grounds and baking soda both absorb odors well.

Coffee as mentioned and wipe down the interior with a vinegar/water solution. I remember someone I know using Ozium, but that stuff smells terrible itself.

Thanks guys. As long as it is possible, I think I'm going forward with the purchase.

Anyone know of any type of DFW company that will remove it and guarantee it?

Nick did my Brothers car, but it came back, but his was a 96 Saturn and this is an 08 mdx. He had cloth seats, this is all leather.

The only porous surfaces are carpet/headliner in this car.

I'd think it has a better chance.

There are numerous tricks to help out, but the only true way is to thoroughly clean every single surface with a good interior cleaner. Smoke leaves a film so you have to work to remove that film.

That only works on smoke in the air. Does nothing after the smoke smell has set in. I use it in my truck cause I smoke but hate the smell of cigarettes. If you don't spray it right after smoking it does not help.

Febreeze works pretty good. I haven't specifically tried it with cig smoke but it works well with other odors.

I read cutting a fresh apple in half and leaving the pieces in the car works very well.

charcoal in a tupperware with the lid off, will absorb the smell, or so I've heard.

yup. activated charcoal is pretty absorbent stuff method but it's best if the air flow through a charcoal filter.

you can find it at pet stores in the aquarium supply section or online cheaper but even then, i bet there will always be traces of smoke.
