LOL, you believe that? What he's really saying is that he can't touch the deal that Skip is offering. Based off the replies in this thread, doesn't sound to me like he's the bait and switch type.

This. If the Ennis salesman was serious about wanting to give YOU (the OP) the best deal possible...he would've called you back by the end of the night with a better offer that he worked out with his managers.

I'll just see what's out there. I don't "have" to have a new truck, I just want one. I can walk away if need be...

I make a damn good salary and have outstanding credit. I'm going to make it work for me this time and not give in to a "want"....

First, let me say that I'm in sales. Not vehicle sales, but I'm still in a sales position.

You listened to all that horseshit, and it never once crossed your mind that your 'normal sales guy' might a- be jealous, b- is telling you that to keep from losing your loyalty or c- is hurting for cash?

It's your decision to make. Only you know what you want, and only you know what is acceptable.

But you'd be ignorant to not go up there and hear the guy out. Especially when there are thousands of dollars on the line. And especially given the distance from FTW to Ennis.

Sales is a competitive business. I wouldn't put it past 99.9% of sales guys to tell you exactly what your 'normal guy' told you. The car business has changed. It's hard to find exactly what you want these days. But Skip will come close as possible, with the best deal he can work. I know this for fact. You never know. He could get you in a truck more loaded up for less money than you were looking to spend. You can't blame him for asking you to come in. Tire kickers over the phone are a dime a dozen, and can't be given straight forward answers. It just doesn't work that way.

And to take the whole 'tire kicker, phone caller' thing a little further -
When I catch my people price shopping me, I cut them off. Period. End of story. No explanation taken. I'm not here to be price shopped. I sell a premium product at a premium price. That's what I do. If you are calling me to farm my numbers out, you're a competitor and will be treated as such. And it will become my mission to fuck you ten ways from Sunday. I WILL put you out of business, with no mercy, and a smile on my face the whole time. I've done it a ton. But I'm not your typical saleman, either. I have the ability to tell you to eat a dick and die, and my bosses will back me up on it. I'm in a rather fortunate situation though.

He is Futurama. Used to work at five star. Don't know what position, or why he left, but he did work at five star for quite a while I believe.

Oh, ok. I remember talking to you when I was a lowly service porter. I'm guessing you got rid of that 94/95 that you had prepped to turbo?

                    Roll Tide...go with Skip.

nobody will match skips prices. he deals more along the lines of making less from more people Vs the make more from less people.

i walked into the sales office and asked about the price on a 2010 flex for my mother inlaw. he turned to his computer punch on some keys and gave me a straight answer, which was considerably lower then the window sticker i just looked at on my way in. no haggle, just the price.

Sucks to know you could have gotten better deals on all those past vehicles.

I don't know, I'm in a sales business as well and we don't appreciate our customers shopping around once we've won their loyalty. It either means we're slipping or they are not a relationship customer which means they are more hassle then they are worth. (90% of the time)

With car shopping though, patience is the key and shopping around is important. The exception is when you KNOW you're getting a good deal. Problem is I never KNOW until I shop around.

Car shopping is like going to court for something, it's a real asswhoop and is NOT an enjoyable experience. Even when working with great sales folks, you're still stressed and concerned.

We bought 3 vehicles from Josh Purdy/Skip Harmon in the last month. You can not beat the price or service. Straight up pricing, no numbers games!
