Take it up there the day after the date listed on the signed title, tell them the person who signed it put 2010 instead of 2011 by mistake.

This is precisely why I ask the seller not to date the title if it needs work. No way do I want to put insurance on it, then get it transferred, if I can't drive it yet.

As far as I know the only way to dodge the penalties for not transferring it in time is if the car is 25 years old or older. So I'd say you either need to pay up now or wait another 9 years to transfer it. I got lucky with my '85 because I waited several months to transfer it thinking like you did that it'd be a small amount but since mine turned 25 last year I didn't have to pay any of that bullshit.

Go up to your tax office, tell them that you wrote the wrong date, they will give you a form that you can take to the previous owner and have him sign saying he sold you the vehicle recently.

I had to do this last year, and it worked.

I've just always stated when I bought the car it wasn't running... Therefore I didn't register it.

                        Always worked for me.

How do they know when you bought it? Don't date the title or the form until you go to register it.

Unless the previous owner filed that form saying they no longer own it. Then you'd be fugged.

Also, if you bought it from a different country, it may have to have an inspection before they will title it.
