They're good looking, cool cars. I say get it.
Putting up pics of Brian Bass' version is a little unfair, since it has hundreds of hours of metalwork in it.
That green one with the wires gets around in all the books by swapping out wheels for different styles. Here's wide whites and hubcaps. It was featured in TRJ with Astros and pinner whites.

For some reason, this is a bodystyle I really like the 4dr version of.

You essentially have a one owner car from the mid-50's with a known history....that runs? I don't see a problem.
Take it, get it out and drive around. You don't need to customize it - he'll i'd find a way to freshen it up with a new paint job and get the chrome nice. Give it a few years of 100% stock before thinking of custom.
Stock is gorgeous when it comes to cars of that era.

Not that it really matters, but that is a '51....or the grille has been changed. The '52's had teeth in the grille.
Anyway, I don't see $6k for that car. It hasn't run in a few years, so you're looking at going through the fuel system, and most likely the brake system. It is probably still 6 volt and the wires have probably been chewed on by rats for the last few years, so you would be best off pulling the wiring out and converting it to 12 volt.
Any reason why they just stopped driving it a few years ago ?
Why don't you just pull a guilt trip on the grandparents and tell them how bad you want to keep this car in the family but can't afford to spend a ton of money on it, blah blah blah ?

'52 is what I was told, I have no idea what the changes were between the years. My grandfather was a big gearhead and the car was supposed to go to my uncle but he doesn't want to spend the time on it. I've already been playing on the "keep it in the family" thing but they're mostly wanting the money for future medical expenses as he's been having problems lately. And the fuel system and brakes were my exact concern, but I think that can be fixed somewhat cheaply. I'm in Iraq so haven't had a chance to talk to them directly about it, I'll probably give them a call in the next few days to see if I can get a better feel for what they are thinking about doing.Originally posted by CRASH View PostNot that it really matters, but that is a '51....or the grille has been changed.
