03 - 05 the entire front hub assemblies have to be replaced every 50,000 miles. They also have that annoying rattle from the steering column that gm says is normal. Door locks on the manual doors fall apart and you have to take the door apart and fix them every few months. Cheap plastic parts in the interior seem to always come loose. A/C controls wear out and the heater gets stuck on high or just quits working so you have to kill the engine and let everything reset. I had a 2005 I bought brand new and just recently sold that had all these problems plus the water pump went out at 40,000 miles. Drove an 04 as a work truck for a year that kept having problems. Another friend had a 2005 and around 120k about 12 sensors on the truck went out and caused all kinds of problems.

07 severam friends had them and they said the interiors were falling apart. Lots of small shit like lock problems, rattles inside, etc.

08 and I believe 09 have computer problems. My dad's company have several that are in the shop every few months because the computers keep going out. GM is warrantying them but they just keep putting the same shitty computers in them.

My dads company had 2010 or 2011 that came in from the dealer and had no oil in the engine. Apparently the factory just forgot to put oil in it.

Our company just got some 2012 models in. Nothing on those yet.

Seems like around the 2003 timeframe GM started cutting corners like crazy when they realized they were not making money. I will never buy a new GM product. Between the shitty new products and taking taxpayer money I don't want anything to do with them.

Can't say much of anything about Ford, but at least they didnt take a bailout.

Get a '11 or newer F-150 with the 5.0. That motor is a beast with a tune, bolt-ons and gears.

Oh, you must be talking about the Chevy...

              Chevy 5.3 - 315hp/335tq
              Ford 5.0 - 360hp/380tq

I've averaged 21mpg in my 2013 fx2 with 5.0 several times. Including the trip yesterday.

Seems to me Chevy is at a disadvantage here...

Man this is all just random stuff thats happened to your friends and family. I cant say any of those are known problems. Id rather own a dodge gas truck over a ford. Ford gas trucks are a piece of shit til the latest body style. I dont know much about the new gas stuff, but I hear its nice.

most are partial to fords here! i understand that. once i tore down my mod motor and fixed it I sold it and bought a chevy. you can mod a 5.3 easily and get more HP out of it. it wins hands down. you dont see ford engines in boats either and i know why. i also have a chevy 4.3 in my boat i run the piss out of it and it performs flawless.

Can you explain the DoD doing more harm than good? I was actually researching last night about people that disable the DoD/AFM and per their experience, get slightly better mpg. It was also stated that it's better to disable that but I don't see why...of course I don't see how cutting cylinders from firing can be good but I figured GM knew what they were doing. Now that my 07 Sierra is paid off, I'm tempted to mod it a little.

Our safety director put on 210k miles on his 5.3 '08 Silverado crew cab 4x4 in 2.5 years with nothing more than an alternator and some crank position sensor going out. It became a shop truck and at 240k miles, we had to replace the front hubs and some suspension pieces. At 260k miles, we rebuilt the engine and transmission for a few grand in house. Truck is still going with 275k on it. For a gas 5.3 truck, that's impressive.

Same safety director now has 140k miles on an Ecoboost F150 A lot of injectors went out at 75k miles and the cat failed too around 100k miles. He likes the Ecoboost but it doesn't seem quite as reliable as the 5.3. More crap to fail apparently.

If I had the money I would buy an ecoboost f150. Could not bring myself to buy anything from government motors.
