Your best bet for free is Gimp. I've used it only once or twice when visiting someone using it and was unimpressed, I own a copy of creative suite and like anyone else, I'd recommend you acquire a copy any way possible.

Download a trial of Photoshop, CorelDraw, and Gimp.
