I'm all about getting out and exploring, seeing the world, expanding horizons, etc. But that is because it's fucking awesome and the world is amazing and I have a desire to experience it. It's certainly not because I need to escape some perceived shittiness and be alone to have an existential meltdown.

Sounds like he's holding on a little too tight. The ability to run away is his security blanket and that's just odd (along with his giant fear of mortality). But then again it's better that he get out on his bike than go nuts and lose his shit in a crowded place lol.
