The FAA has confirmed to News 8 there is a ground stop in effect where American Airlines flies until 4 p.m. Officials with American Airlines say they cannot access their reservations and booking tool.

Flights on regional affiliate American Eagle heading to Dallas, Chicago or New York's LaGuardia Airport have been stopped until 3:30 p.m. EDT.

"Our system being down also affects out aircraft since that is how we report weight and balance," read an American Airlines tweet. "Our apologies for the delay."

Some passengers are stuck on planes while others can't make reservations.

Passengers are using social media to flood the airline with complaints.

American Airlines spokesman Kent Powell said Tuesday that the airline is trying to resolve the issues as quickly as it can.

On Twitter, American is sending out apologies but not offering customers much information about when the problem will be fixed.

Just saw an update on this that it is not an issue with their reservations / booking system. That piece is handled by Sabre, who used to be a part of AA but was split off some time back. Sabre is saying their systems are operating normally.
