MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin is on lockdown due to a report of a gunman on campus, according to the school's Facebook page and a student at the university.
Police are searching for a male in his 50s with a beard, wearing a brown jacket and black hat that was last seen walking in the area of campus 10:20 a.m., according to the Facebook page. School officials were not immediately available for comment.
The Facebook page said there was a report of a man with a firearm in the area of the tennis courts. Classes were canceled for the day.
Zosia Holden, 20, a music student at Carroll, said that students are being told the school is on lockdown and to stay inside their buildings until further notice."I'm a little bit nervous," said Holden. "We're all cracking jokes to make each other less nervous." She said she has been texting her friends on campus to make sure they were OK.
She said the reported location of the gunman is near dormitories, outside of the main campus.
Carroll is a small liberal arts college, with 3,571 full and part-time students. It is located 19 miles west of Milwaukee.
