DALLAS –– At least one suspect who reportedly shot a pregnant woman led police on a high-speed chase throughout Dallas on Monday.
Initial reports indicated that the woman was killed. However, police officials later clarified, saying her child was fatally wounded. She remains in critical condition.
At 12:50 p.m., the scene remains active outside a home at 12064 Galva in the North Dallas neighborhood of Hamilton Park, where the suspect barricaded himself. About a half-hour prior, police followed closely behind a silver sedan that sped along westbound Interstate 30 near Fair Park before exiting northbound onto U.S. 75 and returning to the neighborhood where the incident began.
Reporters at the scene say the initial shooting occurred at a home in the 12300 block of Hoblitzelle Drive. The suspect soon abandoned the sedan, fleeing into the home on Galva. The residence where the man has barricaded himself is about a half-mile from the murder scene.
The suspect fired at police after fleeing the car, reportedly hitting one officer. He or she was taken to Medical City Hospital and is OK, initial reports say. That person has not been named.
The nearby Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet School is locked down as police work to arrest the suspect. The entire neighborhood is blocked off and media helicopters have been asked to vacate the airspace. News outlets have also been asked to stop live coverage from the scene.
This is a developing, fluid story; we'll have more information as we learn it.
