It's common for people to get butt-hurt by logic.

I have no sick days and vacation requires taking a week off, to which I draw 40 hours at minimum wage. I make my money off my commission from labor. Therefore I go to work, I've never missed a full day to being sick. In may ill have been at my job for 16 years. Granted I don't have a wife or kids so my answer might bedifferent if I did. I've had some stomach bugs or food poisoning that's kept me up until 5 or 6 am, I called in to let them know I'd been sick, was going ti get some rest and generally made it in by noon.

With a wife and son down with vomiting, I'd stay home if possible. Priorities.

I'd expect my work to stand by me in any decision I make. I wouldn't expect them to second guess my take on the situation, that is bullshit.

i haven't run into that situation myself, but i would have stayed home too. there's a difference in being sick, and being sick while vomiting.

I would have had the maid or nanny stay with them while I went to work

Situations like this is the very reason that it's now generally called PTO (personal time off) rather than "sick days" and "vacation." It's your time to use as you want, whether it be taking a day to work around the house, take care of family, renew your DL, or whatever.

They won't pay you for it if you don't use it, so it's none of their business how you do use it.

If my family is sick enough that they can't take care of themselves I'm staying home, and fuck any boss who has a problem with that. Family comes first and it rarely happens. Unless you have a history of questionable absences it shouldn't be an issue.

Right now you have ONE wife and ONE kid. There are plenty of other jobs. Fuck em in the ass if they have a problem with that.

                                This is the perfect answer.
