  • Discount tire....

Is the TPMS rebuild charge a bullshit charge? $8 a tire to "rebuild" the TPMS? Their understanding of rebuild has nothing to do with replacing the sensor or battery.... simply switching the grommet on it.

Has anyone ever had this discussion w/ them before?

    TIA

So it is a BS charge in your mind? Or do you think it is valid?

Well you can't replace the battery in them. But it's part of doing tires now. TPMS is a big pain for us. NTB now does tpms service at no charge to the customer.

I've been kicking the idea of buying a tire machine for some time now. I hat the idea of paying some schmuck to scratch my wheels and miss balance my tires.

Theyre just charging you for new valve stem and seal/gasket. Since they have to be removed before removing the tire, its just cheap insurance to have a good seal when they put it back together. People skimp on it, but if the tires have already been replaced a few times, it wont hurt.

Problem is, you throw that + environmental fees + disposal fees and so forth and the price of the tire isn't the price of the tire.

I believe this would be more of a necessity on sensors that are mounted as part of the valve stem system. They should replace the valves stem and core on them anyway or they used to.
