Sub $5000 SUV's - In demand?

Well after coming back from our camping trip this past weekend, my wife and I have decided to purchase a "new" used SUV.

We currently have a 2002 Escape XLT with 121,000 miles on it. KBB puts it at around $5000 excellent, so once I fix a few cosmetic things (crack in windshield, replace factory radio, new floormats) it will be a solid $4500 SUV.

Are sub $5000 SUV's in demand now or have the gas prices kept people from getting them?

It gets 19 - 20 mpg, so not steller, but good for a SUV that can tow a Jayco camper.

I assume that is retail/private party? Prices are really whacked out right now, shitty $500 cars are selling for $3k, so who knows. Price it at book retail and see what happens.

People go on road trips more these days on summer vacation, so maybe decent demand due to needing to fit in kids, luggage, & pets?

That is very good news for me. I have one of the rare wives that doesn't leave the kitchen unless we are camping, and even then, she's in the camper doing 60mph making me a sammich.

Needless to say she took care of her car.

You definitely won't have any issues unloading it then. I started at $4500 on this one with expectations of dropping down to around $3800 or so. The third people that looked at it called me back the next day and offered $4k.

Well I dredged this thread back up to say if you have a used car, apparently you need to price it $1,000 above KBB.

Sold the Escape in 2 hours for my asking price. My phone nearly died from all the inquiries I was getting about it. I will admit, my ad was very detailed, I had 24 photos and the car was super clean...but wow.

Used car market is indeed whack...however in Athens, GA it is hurting. Got a 2008 MDX for around $6,000 under KBB with every option known to man on it.

Flying out Saturday to get it and drive it home.
