I view drug laws the same as I do texting while driving laws. Not controlling your car is ALREADY illegal, why do we need these texting laws? Breaking into peoples houses and stealing their shit is ALREADY illegal, why do we need laws to tell us we can't do drugs?

If someone wants to destroy their life, who are you to tell them they can't?

Curious, when you say "drugs" do you also mean any other type or is there a list in your mind.

I specifiy pot/whatever you want to call it, but I know there are some folks who believe any/all drugs should be legalized. Honestly, I'm not sure what I really think of that. I do know that I'm happy to be in a state that does have decent gun laws if that were to happen.

I'm guessing there really is no valid counter argument on my part. If you want pot legalized - it could be argued to have to accept the rest. Sort of like freedom of speech and having to endure WBC.

      Not a setup, just curious.

If they legalize it though I would like to see them go hard core on all of the harder drugs. I have seen many lives fucked up and lost over crack and meth. I have told a few of the stories previously and do not feel like typing them again. Hardcore alcoholics also have issues. I went to a AA meeting one time on a girl on girl fight and I swear everyone in the place was out of their mind. It was like I walked into a circus.

I have also seen prescription drugs fuck up more people than weed ever has. I think they should go after these doctors that prescribe that shit like it is candy. I love how they prescribe this shit to younger and younger kids and by the time they are 16, they have lost their fucking mind. However I am sure there is to much money in it for it to ever change.
This is truth. Weed is illegal, but is less damaging in my exp. I'm typically very lenient on weed related offenses. The harder drugs I worry about when folks start speaking legalization. Scripts, meth, heroin are drugs I don't care to see legal, or OTC with no limitation. Zero tolerance on those drugs in my book. Legalize the weed if u mus. I could care less; won't try it, I'll let u rec smokers have at it!

All drugs should be legal, IMO. Would a horde of people rush out to do the "harder" drugs? No, the ones that were going to do it already are. Modern day cartels are the equivalent of the prohibition era bootleggers and gangsters. Remove the "black market" aspect of something and you'll kill two or more birds with one stone.

With freedom comes the responsibility of having to accept the negative aspects of that freedom.

I would like to think the word felony is just enough of a deterrent to keep people away from experimenting with the harder stuff. That stuff is highly addictive and fucks people up. I have seen very well off people go from riches to homeless and then dead because of that shit. I have seen lots of pretty young girls end up strung out and turning tricks at hotels because of it. You really want to legalize that?

As far as texting in cars goes I don't think we need new laws for that I think cell phone companies should disable it at over say 3 mph or whatever the average speed someone can walk is. Texting restrictions are not about taking your freedom away, they are about you not killing someone else to send a useless message to your BFF. I guarantee you if the truth be known a hell of a lot more wrecks are caused by texting then anything else right now. Most people lie about it though. I would put it up there with DWI as far as being dangerous.

Who are you to tell these people they can't go from riches to rags, or gorgeous to horrendous, and why does it need to be a felony?

"The government can't tell you what to do, but the cell phone companies sure can!"

                    Yes they are.

It's already illegal to accidentally kill someone due to a lack of control on your part. They call that manslaughter.

DWI is also horseshit. The problems you're complaining about are already illegal. Not stopping at red lights, not maintaining your lane, a general lack of controlling your vehicle.

You have yet to justify why we need these additional laws when the problems are already illegal. If you are under the influence of something and are able to maintain control of yourself and your vehicle, where's the problem?

What you've seen is all of the negative shit, because it is your job to deal with people who can't handle their lives(drugs or no drugs). What you don't deal with is all the other people who have completely normal days, go home and behind closed doors do whatever the hell they want, then get up the next day and go to work like clockwork. Legalize everything. Let darwinism do it's fucking job.

Playing the other side, is what we're doing now working? You put them in jail, they get back out rinse/repeat. Our justice and prison systems are complete crap.

I really do hate to say this, but maybe those folks OD'ing and getting dead other ways will cleanse the gene pool a little bit. Prison in not rehab in any way shape or form. I think a very strong argument that between the war on drugs and all these prisoners being in jail for drugs - it's a decent drain on the tax system.

Then again, you're probably going to arrest those same people for something else anyway. DUI, assault, robbery...whatever. At least the tax money from their poison will be helping or in general tax money from that will help.

Yeah the repeat rate is pretty high and I do not have the answer for that. I wonder if that is more because we cater to the criminals in jail or what. I am all about second chances and people making mistakes. Hell I think after say five to ten years if you act right that shit should drop off your record except maybe homicide or rape. However if you keep doing again and again then you should be locked the fuck up and not in a nice way.
