This thread is going to make 03trublugt furious. His service is what a majority of his arguments were based on.

The only reason I saw your stupid opinion was because of my response to Alex.

You're such a whiney little bitch.

A whiney factual bitch. Don't forget, anyone who hasn't served is a coward. Except your son of course. He is exempt from your ill conceived internet ramblings.

I get where some are coming from and I think that generally a lot of people have over done it during these conflicts. However, as posted half of it is fake - I agree. The stickers and 90% of what you see out there is just some hollow means to seem like they are contributing.

Also, I really understand people pulling that "card" all the time. I personally do not see it in everyday life and don't notice much on here.

At the same time, there is very little that a standard American will go through that'll match what even a REMF can endure. (You may not realize this, but a fair amount of people died on the CG's base - about as REMF as you can get in Iraq - well, maybe Kuwait)

Here is the core problem though that I think a lot of vets do not understand. I think it is okay to BS with friends (who ask) about it, especially prior service or other folks who actually can relate. Otherwise, you're talking into thin air and (as this thread points out) annoying people. Most people cannot relate, but strongly feel they understand it. Which simply is not the case, but that is not really a bad thing either.

When I get spun up is when the military folks are talked down to on this board/in general. I do not really give a crap if they were slinging mashed potatoes the whole time while at a CONUS station. Everyone has their reasons for joining. I'm a bit of a hypocrite though, cause if I figure out someone joined -only- for the "college money" that annoys me a little. Still, that college money is earned if you served as best you could. (Worked damn hard)

I do agree though some folks can over do it. I relate it to folks who get over done on their pro-gun stance. It instantly turns off people on the fence and provides fuel for the gun control crowd.

I've seen it a few ways. Military, college educated, ect. I generally tried to be mindful of the ones who served but the college people I know that still seem to be dumber than a box of rocks kill me. Then they try to act like their opinion has more merit than someone else's.

                          Well said.

To add my own input: First, does it make one person better than another? Of course not. That is just a silly concept. It's one's morals, ethics, and actions that make them stand out, not the fact that they chose to join the military.

I get pretty disgusted when I hear people throwing that around.. Especially in that entitled tone "I'm a veteran". I cringe.

Some guy was talking shit to Leah at Dukes one night, basically because she told him to get lost after he kept bothering girls in our group. I had missed that but noticed him walk up to her when I was on my way to the bathroom. I stopped and watched him talking to her, then went back over to see what the issue was. She told me how he was talking shit so I went over to discuss it with him. Half way through his ramblings he drops the "She doesn't know me, she doesn't know what I've been through, I'm a veteran!". My response was "yeah? so am I, and that is my wife you're talking about". He gets a blank stare and all of the sudden his friends start dragging him away.

So I guess in his mind, women should all swoon over him, and panties should drop, even though at that moment he was nothing more that a drunk asshole. I will never get that attitude.
