  • Anyone here do title work for boats

I bought a boat from a marina with a bill of sale. I'm ready to go to the lake so i need some papers to get TX numbers and sticker. anyone here do this. I have the old tx numbers, the last owners name and email, papers where it was worked on for the last 10 years. I'm sure their's no note due on it anywhere. it's a 351w also.

Go to the DMV website and look under title transfers you will need to get 3 different pieces of paper if it came with a trailer. Trailer, vessel, motor

Can you not print or email those papers and send them to the person who it was last registered to. They fill it out along with the title, then go transfer it and get your tags

In order to do what you're wanting to do you will have to get a bonded title for the boat, motor, and trailer. The place I listed can do all of that for you, for a price of course. That's how it works when you don't have the title, but go ahead and keep looking for that DFWM miracle title worker, I'm sure you'll find them.

Looks like a nice setup. Good luck getting it sorted. Title and the state are two tall orders that require a lot of patience.

The minute you try and register it in your name, they're gonna try and collect a bunch of sales taxes & fees from you on the transfer.

I don't know if this would work or not, but go to the TPWL on-line site and try to refresh the registration (TX) numbers and have the new ones sent to your address.

That won't get it in your name, but at least you could get the registration sticker to get it back on the water.

You got to file form PWD 388 first before you can go to a bond company.

                        Very long process.

Lot quicker if you can get last owner to file lost title and have mailed to your address.
Bonded you can forget about getting on lake this season.

Having been through this before, you couldn't GIVE me a boat that doesn't have a clean title. The title bond companies I contacted wouldn't do boats and basically the only path was to go back to the original owners, which wanted $$$$ to file for the title. Basically I was stuck with an 18' long piece of crap I couldn't even get rid of. I ended up cutting it up with a chainsaw into 2'x2' chunks and sending it to the land fill one chunk at a time with the house trash, since the landfill wouldn't even take it in pieces when I took it there in a trailer.

                              Good luck with that.

#1 rule with purchasing a used boat in Texas.
If there are any title issues whatsoever, walk away. You just purchased someone elses headache.
