      I did.

Yeah, my great grandparents married at 14 and 13, respectively. They were happily married into their 90s.

Why is 18 (or 17 or 16 - whatever) the age where you feel people are mature enough to consent to marriage? I know a lot of 50 year old people that make dumb fucking decisions, especially concerning marriage. So obviously age is not the only criteria for making good/bad decisions. We already have instances where children are tried for crimes as adults in a court of law, so the precedent has been set. I fully expect to see some form of anti-age discrimination laws in our lifetime.

      Awesome.
When the government pays, the government controls.

And yet, here we are, because the federal government decided to make a separate tax code for people filing married vs single. It also doesn't really matter that the federal government is in it, nor that you think it's a states' issue because the states are bound by the constitution via incorporation doctrine. The only way that states could get away with not recognizing gay marriage is to not recognize ANY marriage.

Okay then, why do we have elections if a court is just gonna overturn the result anyway?

And yet you see fit to affect the actions of others with your different views. Why couldn't you have left it at "We have different views and we'll leave it at that" when deciding whether or not homosexuals can get married?

So, what makes your view better than anyone else's views? The ONLY argument you have, is "Because God said so." Why is "God" even part of the discussion? What about everyone else, who doesn't believe in God? God doesn't write the laws in America. Nor should he have any influence.

                        • I am a Christian but for this comment I will put faith aside.

I am willing to bet ALL of the people reading this are the by-product of a decision made between a MAN and a WOMAN to procreate. Believe what you may, but whatever or whoever created man and woman gave this amazing gift of life creation to a MAN and a WOMAN. This was a part of their design and if you believe in a “Higher Being” who is all powerful and created life, would it be wise to go against their blueprint?

I am in the construction field so this is how I relate. I am handed a blueprint with designs that where thought out over months and months by people in specific areas of the construction field. Every detail of the project was reviewed by people who are more educated and “specialist” in their field. To build a blueprint it takes many “specialist” to create the best design for a particular building. When dealing with a construction project, here are a few “specialists”: Architect, Structural Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Civil Engineers, Chemical Engineers, and more.

Now, let me ask you, would it be wise of me, in my limited knowledge, to make changes to the blueprint that was so meticulously put together by a group of people with super specific knowledge? If I did it could be disastrous and devastating, possible leading to the collapse of the structure itself. Now if you believe in an “Ultimate All Wise Universal Architect” would it be wise to go against his blueprint?

So is it wrong for a MAN and a WOMAN to choose not to procreate?

What if a cracked out man and woman couple have a child and they are smart enough to consider having the baby adopted? Is it wrong for 2 men or women to adopt it when they would be excellent parents? Or just keep it with the good ole blueprinted drug homeless parents not knowing if it would survive and what kind of person it would be.

How many more people out there would turn out to be good people if this happened to a lot of kids?

                            • What if you see someone across the street putting up a house and they are using a different method to do something than you? What if they choose a different kind of wood than you? What if it's a different color than you would choose?

How much is that really going to affect YOU? Sure see it every once in a while but those people are happy the way they built that house.

                              • I merely ask where the federal government draws authority to say anything about marriage and then point out that if they think marriage laws are draconian the license should be repealed and people do as they like
