            I used to eat the hell out of McDonalds when I was a teenager. The only time you'll find me there now is if it is 2am and I'm desperate. Even then I don't think it is "good."

                Two things happen here.

                1.) Your taste buds develop, and tastes change as you get older. Your palate becomes more developed. Things you used to like, you don't like anymore. Things you used to not like, you grow to like.

                2.) Food quality has become shit. Preservation methods have changed. The makeup of what goes in to product has changed. Less beef, more soy. Less fresh, more processed crap. The chains do this for several reasons. Reduce food costs, increase consistency, reduce cook and service time, etc. McDonald's is the king of consistency. Sure, it's shit. But you can get that exact same shit, cooked the exact same way, with the exact same taste; whether you're in Odessa, TX, or Shanghai.




                It's been this way for some time now, but many restaurants aren't really restaurants anymore. I like to call them microwaves, or re-thermers. So little product is actually cooked in the store anymore. This is true for fast food, but it's even more prevalent in casual restaurants, where you sit down to eat. Mainly with chains, but some Mom & Pops do it as well. This is why I prefer to eat at places that have actual chefs, not just cooks.

                  I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but the meat in a jitb hamburger is putrid. I thought at first it was just the local jitb maybe doing something different, but it is every one of them.

                  So true. we ended up in a chili's a month ago and somehow my wife got on the subject of her food not being fresh to the waitress, and the waitress let us know its all just thrown on a conveyor system. None of it is fresh. Oh, awesome.
                  This is kind of why I really like the idea of hibatchi. i know that shit is fresh. I SEENED IT WITH MY OWN 2 EYES!!!

                            My bad, lying by omission I guess. Burgers are cooked in store. But they are from a frozen patty, not fresh like they used to be years ago. With a sandwich you aren't really cooking anything though. Toasting the bread, or melting cheese, but it's technically not cooking from raw to done.

                                I'm not picking on anyone in particular. This is the way the entire industry has gone. I could throw out 100+ other names that do the exact same thing.


                                Again, this is why I prefer to eat at the smaller operations, places with actual Chefs, not just cooks that are warming up soup in a bag, etc.
