I heartily dislike salesmen

Not in sales but my boss called me an Asshole yesterday. Said he knew I was an asshole for the past 4 years and knew I was an asshole when he rehired me back in August. He is okay with me being an asshole. So not only salesmen can be assholes; others can too.

Nope, I'm good. It's a large number of them that I have a problem with. Don't get me wrong, they aren't all bad. There's just very few left like me. Call me fucking crazy, but I actually listen to people and point them in the direction of what they need, even if its something I don't represent. I'm not going to sell someone a rake to dig a hole, just for the purposes of volume.

Same here. For me it's much more about the strength and the longevity of my relationship with my clients, than getting the quick sale to bolster numbers. If I sell them that rake, then they won't be coming back to me when it's time to invest in a fleet of back hoes, as their project grows and expands.

problem with sales is that it does not use any creative thinking IMO. you want this? buy it for this much. oh is that too much? let me give you a "deal" and make it cheaper. all they are doing is cutting down on their profit margin so you buy whatever it is they are selling. the product should sell themselves and the 'sales' people should just be taking/processing orders.

I've come accross clients that think that very same thing, and it's usually the guy or gal that already knows exactly what shovel they want, and likely will never need more than a garden trowel.

Not all sales is your typical car or shoe sales. Depending on the complexity of what you offer, there's alot mor to it than quoting prices.

That's true for retail.

But I have to get pretty fucking creative in every aspect of what I do. The problem with sales, is its the only way for someone that lacks intelligence, to make a decent wage. So that's the majority of what I deal with. Someone who just slaps a markup on it and takes the order, while I do all the dirty work for them.

My job these days is to review and correct reports (bout 9 a day). No one likes to be corrected, even moreso a group of alpha males like we are. There is no easy and polite way for me to say "your report is fucking retarded. Did you even read this shit before you sent it? Rewrite and resubmit." That and I am really an asshole. Just ask my exwife.
