  • Anyone have a hot tub? Question.....

Last spring I redid the backyard and put in a pergula, stone patio, outdoor kitchen and hot tub. Spent alot of time getting this to look nice, and honestly, rarely ever use the hot tub.

So last weekend I drained all the water, cleaned it real good and filled it back up. I put a bromine floater in there. but thats really all I did. Im not sure what treatments or chemicals to add? Now its about a week later and I went to get in it last night and the water stunk! everything was crystal clear and seemed fine other than the smell. It wasnt a disgusting smell, but almost a stale or molding smell? I keep the temp up to around 96 so that it will circulate the water during the day.

im sure its because im not using the right, or enough chemicals. can someone give me some help, thanks!

I just use chlorine in mine and nothing else. I break a 3" tab up in quarters and put 1 at a time in a small floater. My water stays crystal and never any smell. I had a buddy who used bromine and constantly fought to keep it clean. He switched to chlorine and has no issues. I have even left it for a month without any chlorine and the water was still fine. Just a shock and ready to go.

We use to have a Hot Tub and ran the Bromine crap in it per the place we go the tub from. We had green shit coming up on the head rest pads and a ring around the tub. We found that you have to get all the bromine out and cleaned before you go to the chlorine the chlorine is what causes the green crap from the bromine. Once we switched to chlrine no more trouble and no more smells.

Take a jar of the water to a pool place, they will test it for you for free. You most likely have a PH imbalance you want to fix this as it will erode your equipment.

Or get a test strip kit from Home depot and do it yourself..

chlorine is in city water, and chlorine and bromine dont mix well. Hot tubs are tough to keep balanced due to the small amount of water in them and that they are always warm/hot.

Do you keep a cover on it? I work for a pool and spa company and should be able to help you out.

Those test strips are hard to read and most of the time inaccurate. If anyone needs good quality service PM me. I'll get you hooked up and can tell you how to do everything if you want to learn.
