One of mine went like that. Two years before, she got a ruptured eye which cost a couple grand. Ending up being an expensive dog.

To be honest...I dont think I would bother with the ultrasound. If the lungs arent backed up from something like kidney failure it is probably the heart. Not sure if they can check a BNP level which is our quickest way in people to look for CHF. I have spent more money on my dogs than anyone else on the board so Im not trying to say it is a cost thing. I just dont think it will do that much good.

The biggest problem with a good dog is they just don't live long enough.

my red healer trixie had the same thing, she breathed like she could not get oxygen, i had to have her put down to stop suffering, it still bothers me bad after 3 years, she was the smartest dog i have ever seen, i honestly beleive she could understand most anything i said, damn sorry for your pain!!!

I was in the "there is no way I would spend money on a dog camp", until I got my current mutt. I would drop some coin on this dog if it would lead to her living significantly longer, she is coming up on 5 years old hoping for another 10.

My cocker has a heart murmur, he's about 5yrs old right now. Vet said it sounds good though, just have to really watch him as he gets older. When I got him from the rescue he was just finishing up heart worm treatment too, this was when he was about a year old. I've spent a bit on him so far....heart worm pills, vaccines, couple vet visits per year (to check his murmur). I'll spend whatever I have to to help this little guy live a full life.

Best of luck to you, hoping for the best.

At 11 years, I'd seriously consider the cost vs life. If you spend all the money for tests and it doesn't make a difference, save the dog and yourself the hassles and have her put down.

I know you're "right", but I have to give it a shot.

She is at home now, on her favorite pillow.
