I remember seeing lots of broken Seaduds, but don't specifically remember a single piston issue that was not user-induced, i.e. too much starting fluid, pure gas instead of premixed, etc.

Not to say that they did not have them, I just did not see any. I saw lots of electronics, driveline, and user maintenance failures on them.

Thanks for all the feed back.. Looks like he is going to probably go with a Yamaha. I told him to go to a dealer and get more detail about the differences in models.

I mentioned the issue with smaller engines not being very fast with a heavier set guy. So he will probably fork of the money for one of the luxury edition ones with that 1800cc motor. He is an easy sell so they will probably over sell him and get him into the turbo one haha.

They are both 2009 Kawaski 1500 STX. One is a lighter, smaller version, but the same motor on both. You'd be surprised what a little less weight and smaller hull can do.

Anyway, I like riding a "couch" when I go out past the reef. I can use the extra stability with those big Pacific swells. (Ya, that was a barg. A solid one too)
I remember going 55-60 mph on a big behemoth 12-15 years ago, and it felt like I was going a whole lot faster. How fast do they go without mods these days? Seems like anything more would be scary (and fun) as hell.

I'm waiting on a new jet pump for the little one. I'm expecting to see low 70s with me on it (180lbs).

There is a model exactly like mine, but supercharged. Not sure what it'll do.

Forgot to mention it needs to be firmly secured. Still has to be a two seater though.

cut/paste but been playing on the water for about 30 years now

the mirrors on my couch are only 3.5" tall so while not legal never had a problem

Yeah, maintenance (or lack thereof) is a big issue with a lot of them it seems. A buddy of mine owns a boat shop (used to post out here some) and he was always picking those things up on the serious cheap due to neglect.
