Since 95 here. I was blown away that I could talk to someone over the internet from a different state. I am glad that I didnt know about he internet before then. I actually had to socialize face to face or over the phone with my firends instead of hiding behind a computer.

Shit... Remember trying to get a hold of someone before cell phones, emails, pagers, etc?

If you called their house and didn't get an answer, you were fucked. I can't believe we conducted day life without this modern communication. It can never go back.

I starting getting "online" with my Commodore 128 with Qlink in 1987 over a 300 baud modem. Around 1990 I had a PC with a 14.4 modem and hosted a local BBS as well as connected to ones all over the place.

The first time I was on the proper Internet was prolly 1992 when I was active on a ton of alt. and rec. newgroups on USENET.

So 21 years on proper internet, 25 years since the first time I used a modem.

remember when there was no call waiting?

me and a few friends specialized in 3-4-5 way calling, and would go through our school directory and prank call almost every single girl in it, on a nightly basis.

Lol hell yeah. It was a little less fast paced then too. Now everything is on demand and instant.

Anyone else remember putting the headset to a rotary phone on the big box with the cushy muffs and listening to the modem warm up?

Downloading a 55 meg file from kazaa on dial up was an all night affair.

I remember when TV service came over the air, and phone service came over the wire!

Qube Cable TV - the "remote" was just aat the end of a 25ft long cable.

When TV remotes were just high pitched sounds. not of that fancy infra-red new fangled shit!

I'd estimate 1991. I used Prodigy back when it was only a BBS before they had chat rooms. Started cutting my teeth in chat rooms around 94, and it was all downhill from there. The early net was hugely entertaining, with people constantly underestimating what they were dealing with. Like Jared I met a couple big 'uns and some much older women back then. It's pretty entertaining thinking about how naive every one was and how much sexing was going on.

My dad used to do the BBS where it'd dial in, you post something, then you log out type thing.

Then we got this (came with a browser called Air Mosiac) around 1994.

Then we had the AOL pay for the minute thing, then the unlimited AOL, then ISDN, DSL, Cable.

I am 28 now, so I was like 8 when I first got on the internet.
