This is from someone who tested both on a 30ft travel trailer. (The Ecoboost just shines in towing)

However if not towing get the 5.0 (hate to say this also but test drive the Ram hemi trucks)

We have a 12 Ecoboost FX2 as does my brother and friend. None of these trucks have had any issues. Ours has 11k miles on it. I drove a 5.0 before we bought our and like the ecoboost better. Feels like it pulls better through the rpms. I really want to do an intake,exhaust and tune on ours but dont want to kill the warranty. Our gas mileage hovers around 17-18 mixed driving. So probably not much better than the 5.0's.

I bought a '12 SCREW in october. Since I don't tow anything big I went with the 5.0 and have been very happy with it. Avg 18.5 mpg.

I would think that if towing a 30ft travel trailer or things of similar weight is going to be somewhat a consistent thing, then an f150 shouldn't even be on the table. Should be looking at F250 or F350 with power stroke...

A 30 foot travel trailer only weights like 6-8k depending on the model. And ecoboost truck with max tow package is rated for over 11k poinds.

It simply is the best pulling 1/2 ton truck out right now.

I personally dont care for the 3/4 ton trucks and up. When you are not towing the ride rough. I dont like the maintenance cost of a diesel and the fuel costs.

Besides if I were to buy a diesel it would not be a powerstroke, but a cummins dodge.

However if you dont pull, your better off with the 5.0 or the Ram Hemi.

As far as gas mileage goes, I have gotten as high as 24 mph. However I generally get near 19ish.

If you want mpg you'll have to drive 55-60 on the highway WITH THE CRUISE ON.

If you let the turbos spool, it will drink gas. The turbos are small and will be at full boost before you get to 2000 rpms. I dont think I can floor the truck and lift fast enough to NOT build 6-8 pounds of boost.

If you are concerned with fuel mileage buy the naturally aspirated Ram 1500 with the V6. OR wait till next year when they put the 4cyl diesel motor in the Ram 1500

I'll stick with simplicity, Silverado. It's the cheapest of all I guess, I like it and it makes great power to pull with. The 6 speed auto is a plus, the interior is plain. Plus, it'll outrun any of the others

Ford: Base F-150 SuperCrew with 5.0 V8 and no options is $33,150.00
Chevy: Base 1500 Crew with weak 4.8 V8, only 4 speed trans option $32,710.00
Chevy: Base 1500 Crew with 5.3 V8 and no options is $33,535.00.
Dodge: Base 1500 Crew with weak 4.7 V8 and no options $29,060.00
Dodge: Base 1500 Crew with 5.7 V8 and no options $29,870.00

So, comparably equipped, the Dodge is the cheapest with Ford being 2nd and Chevy being Last...

And I haven't seen any tests of the 5.3 vs 5.0 so can't comment on those, but the Chevy is slower than the ecoboost, loaded or unloaded... Plus the Chevy is still using Drum brakes on the rear.

Unless you have a 6.2 under the hood, you aren't out running anything with those ancient 4.8 and 5.3 offerings.

I should say my 6.2 isn't GM stock, as in the way it was from GM. It's got a Ls9 cam and I milled the heads to make it make more power. They make around 350-360 tuned, mine made 414/409.

I should note when I say cheaper, I'm talking maintenance. You know, something that doesn't pay 8 hours labor to change 16 spark plugs or require new rotors when doing brakes. They are simple, not the best looking by no means.

If they are smart, they don't pay sticker... My comparison was for MSRP as incentives, discounts, and such are subjective to the dealer, time of year, vehicle, options, inventory, etc...

I paid $24k for my $37k truck... Bought during Ford truck month with crazy incentives/discounts...
