$1000/20 cars = $50 profit on a $39.95 inspection. That's not taking into account how much it cost to have the lights on, building rental, etc.

See the Rules and regulations Manual for Official Vehicle Inspection stations Section 4 page 18 20.15. Note: On Vehicles manufactured or equipped with a muffler and a turbo, the muffler must be present and in good working order.

Section 1857 et seq.) or other applicable law.

(2) "Metal tire" includes a tire the surface of which in contact with the highway is wholly or partly made of metal or other hard, nonresilient material.

(3) "Muffler" means a device that reduces noise using:

(A) a mechanical design, including a series of chambers or baffle plates, to receive exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine; or

(B) turbine wheels to receive exhaust gas from a diesel engine.

I'm seeing more and more mobile sniffing stations on blind corners with a sneaky "... shoulder closed" sign just before it.

How do you make money doing States? Up sells for failing cars? Not being a jerk, just wondering.

Sticker cost me $14.50 plus .50 for dial up fees. So I make 20.75 per sticker at my 35.75 charge. If I do 10 a day that's 207.50 profit 20 a day is 415 for not doing much work.

No they don't count as mufflers. It even specifically mentions that in the book.
