I'm on Patterson rig 18, I appreciate all the props, but you would be amazed at 25 how much I had to miss out on to get where I'm at, I haven't been home for Christmas or thanksgiving or my birthday in 6 years, I used to spend 6, 7 weeks on my rig because we were short handed and nobody wanted to work. I'm still young and have a long way to go In my life but if you let the oilfield become your mistress, she will use you until you are broke and suffering... I have 2 bad hips from falling off a mud pump, improperly healed hand from breaking a bone throwing tongs, I have a destroyed shoulder, tongs again, but I'm too hard headed to walk away... Just got the biggest compliment of my career to date today. They are putting me on another rig to turn it around and make it a better performing rig because the tool pusher over there can't handle it, so they are taking me off my rig that I made a Cadillac and having me do it again and giving him my gravy train

I could only hope to be a pusher at 25...That's badass majority of the one's I have dealt with are way older than that...The opportunity is endless from what I have seen so far as long as you bust your ass...Everyone keeps telling me to move towards the production side of things but I love the drilling side..Main goal for me would be company man but I'm logging now so i'd probably have to start all over...

I work with just about everyone. Wireline has it pretty easy on most of the new equipment, hell most of the cabins have TVs, fridge, microwave, AC. Stimulation guys (frac, blender, etc.) work a lot of hours but it is not as physically demanding as some others. Coil tubing guys are nuts (think run-a-ways are fun, think you have not lived until you have been through one). Snubbing guys have a few screws loose which is why I have been asked to design a remote controlled unit. Drillers and top drive guys work their butts off but do not always understand the laws of physics (5,000 lb tong will always beat a 200 lb person).
I have respect for all of them because of the long hours and horrible conditions they are in. They do get paid a lot and there is a reason for that.

I've done 4 days straight no sleep due to getting stuck, pulling casing apart then having to run fishing tools down hole to go retrieve what we left behind. But in the end I love my job and my 7 and 7 schedule
Congrats on where you're at. We're about the same age, and if I didn't love my structure life and free time, id be a field engineer instead of design. You make a little more than me, and it probably cost me a lot more to even get my salary in schooling.

I agree it's not for everyone. I've talked to alot people wanting to get in but don't want to get their hands dirty. They prefer to drive a truck or something easy.
