  • Doctor Preference: M.D vs. D.O

Does it matter to you if your PCP or any doctor you're treated by is a M.D or D.O? I know we all do not have the luxuries of Medic Tim to save our day; So, preferences?

I've always preferred an M.D. for several reasons, but had a D.O one of the visits to the ER this weekend and remembered why I do not like them. A M.D fixed me up my second visit without a hitch.

For the most part, DO's are physicians that could not get into an allopathic (MD) curriculum for whatever reason. There are some good docs that are DOs and bad docs that are MDs. You just have to find one that you trust...regardless of what initials they have after their name.

And I am an MD. LoL.

I believe they both can be good. One of our hospitalists is a DO and I think he is a much better doctor than some of the MDs I work with. It all comes down to their knowledge and attitude to me. Credentials are not that big of a deal if they know how to do their job.

                      Aren't you also a proctologist?

I used to prefer M.D.'s, but admittedly my PCP for the past 15+ years who is a D.O. has been outstanding.

Agreed.....they all go through med school (and like any schools, they could vary). The docs complete residency programs in their field of practice no matter if they are MD's or DO's. You get in a car crash or go to the ER with injuries you likely are not going to care when you get to the hospital what the initials are after the Docs name. You most likely only care that they have the training and knowledge to help you.

We had a big (unnecessary) scare concerning my daughter that was caused by a D.O. Never again.
