  • Maintain it, maintain it, maintain it! Boats last a long if you take care of them. Basic stuff like washing/drying after lake runs, COVERING IT, and properly winterizing will save your wallet big time. My dad has 2 different boats that he has owned since new...he takes care of them and they still look great despite their 25+ years of age. The gm 4.3l v6 is a great gas saver for an inboard...and it lasts forever! I've owned 3 boats and 2 jet skis, and never had a problem. The woes come from neglect, 90% of the time.

    • i have a boat. i enjoy getting away from the highway and roads since i am on them all day. getting out throwing a hook or just chillin with a drink sitting on the water is a good time. when you get tired of it you can just sell it. i wouldnt go blow 60K on a boat but a runabout for 15-20K to get on the water isnt too bad.

      • ceyko, if you're wanting a bass boat check out some mid to late 90's fiberglass boats. More stability, they will fish alot better and handle rough water better. I just picked up a used Stratos with a 225 E-rude for under 7k and it is a fantastic boat so far. I was looking for a used Champion but those things are like gold right now! I recently/still have an aluminum Bass Tracker and I absolutely hate it for bass fishing.(it's a flat bottom aluminum) Paying what they want for any type of new boat seems way outrageous to me, but if you can afford it go with it! They want 60k for a new Skeeter with crappy electronics!! And Ranger's are just ri-freakin-diculous which I'm sure you saw at Cabelas. There are deals to be had, so just find what's right for you. Just trying to help.

        • Oh and IF you do go glass instead of aluminum, a good rule of thumb for motor size and resale is:

          17'-115
          18'-150
          19'-175-200
          20'-200-225
          21'-22' -225-250

                Will do man,

I might bust out the boat Sunday to de-winterize, change oil and clean it up but doubt I'll have time to take it to the lake this weekend.
