I didn't read past post 19 but you don't want a mini. They are great on track where you can momentum drive them but otherwise are slow as shit around town.
for the 23k price, we just bought my wife a 2012 WRX with 4800 miles on it. They can be found but you have to look hard. Car is fun as shit and I played with it on a VERY slick/wet race track this weekend. I laughed till I nearly pissed myself doing things I could only dream of in a RWD car. We got the 5 door instead of the 4 door and stay away from an STI as the insurance is murder.
Subaru all the way man! Don't by the Mini or I will be forced to insert the work "mini" into every response to any post you make for the rest of your life!

08 F250 CCSB 4x4, fully loaded, leather, reverse camera, etc. I'll be under $21k on it. 575rwhp, room for human beings, 18+mpg, hauls anything, momma is safe if she gets in a wreck, quiet/comfortable/etc.
my buddy's CCSB went 12.76 @ Baytown tune only.
I'm in this truck right... I could probably flip it for $26-29k. BUT, it just proves that NO FUCKING THANK YOU on a $20k+ Mini Cooper

The wife is wanting a Country Man S so we test drove one last night...of course she liked it....I hated it. Felt very cheaply made. I sat in the rear seat for a few minutes and was sweating my balls off...asked the salesman if the A/C went stronger/colder and he said he had all the way up. We switched and I drove and the A/C still sucked in the drivers seat. (I am used to turning my Mustangs A/C down to level 1 on 2 on the fan dial about 3-4 minutes after leaving work in 100 deg weather.
I could hear all the road noise and suspension clunking in the rear seat. The leather seats felt like leather wrapped cardboard.
***Hoping she thinks hard on this...but she normally gets whatever car she wants. It would save me a ton of money over the gas hog lifted truck she drives now lol..both in payment and fuel.

I was trying to talk her into an Ecoboosted Fushion...she doesn't want to have a run of the mill "old lady" family car as she describes them. Still going to keep trying to get her to atleast test drive one...I some how need to find a way to work the reverse phsycology before it is too late...it seems the more I talk bad about the Mini...the more she wants it.
She wants 4 doors, around 30mpg, some pep, 20-25k price, and a something that doesn't scream boring old lady.
We test drove a 2011 BMW 328i as well. It was very comfortable and nice but I was astonished at the lack of features that come standard on a car so expensive.. didn't even have blue tooth and the radio/dash looks like something from the 90's. The BMW didn't exactly fit her criteria but wanted to test drive just to see how she liked them.

Hopefully I can buy sometime pulling the "it is better financially" to wait another 6 months until next year and she will find something else. This is going to be a tough argument when the car payment alone would save me 100-150 and then probably another 100 or more in gas a month.
