Whatever you do, make sure your notice letter is full of grace and kindness even if you don't mean it. You never know who they know.

At my previous gig, I really enjoyed working my ass off for the guy that hired me, and when he got promoted, I ended up with the biggest douche in the company as my new boss. Raises stopped, no more promotions, and a list of things to get done that was intentionally impossible to accomplish. I fucking hated it.

I asked for a meeting with the bobs to try to iron out some of the unreasonables, or ask for a different position in the company. The meeting turned into them telling me I wasnt "serving the boss like I serve GOD" so I pulled out three copies of my resignation and handed it to them without saying a word. The looks on thier faces were priceless. I was getting married in a few weeks, and had just moved into a new house. Im sure they thought they had my over a barrel, and were pushing to see how far I would go.

I make more than twice what i was there, and no travel or meetings called at 5pm friday or 7am saturdays anymore.

Props to you for getting the fuck out of there! I'm so thankful for where i work. I have been been promoted twice in the year i have been here with healthy raises each time. Im currently at about double what i was hired at. They see me working my ass off and reward me for it. Im on track to get promoted again within the year to a Sr. Underwriter which will be about another $30k bump. I have excellent benefits paid 95% by my company, and i get 12 paid holidays a year with 3 weeks of PTO. Not railroad money, but my $1650/mo rent for my 1 br apartment needs to get paid somehow!

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I went down there this am to return their stuff. They pull out with the what can we do to get you to stay. Then they drone on about the opportunities there. I just told them we were beyond that. Really, I have been there 18 months. Never got a bonus of any kind and received a 3% raise last summer. Does that really equate to big opportunity? Not in my book.
Just more of their carrot on a stick bs. I got my fill. Lies plain and simple.
Though I thanked them for the opportunities and will start the new gig Monday.

Right? I was paying 720/mo for roughly the same thing (minus 100sq/ft and private garage) in Frisco. That one had a public parking garage. That said im living in probably one of the nicest areas in the SF Bay area and i went from communtin 90 minutes each way and spending 450/mo on gas to living 12 minutes from work.

Like I've said, the single floor flats in our neighborhood were selling for $1.2 - $1.3 million. 1500 sq feet, 2 bedroom, 1-2 bath, no yard, AND someone living above you. Insane. My buddies at work were paying $2,500 - $3,500 a month for 1 bedroom apartments (Russian Hill/Pac Heights/Marina).

That monthly will buy you a $400k crib here in DFW, and that's a damn nice place here.

Hey, at least in SF you don't have to pay a 9.3% state income tax on top of all that ... oh wait.
