  • So I Got a Job Offer

I have been unsatisfied with my current employer since the guy who hired me left and I got a new supervisor. I gave it a year and I'm not sure what I expected but this guy hasn't got a clue. He is a young guy and seems to think he knows everything. One of my co workers commented, "If he knew half of what he thinks he does we'd really have something."

So, I put out the "feelers" to see what I could find. I talked to several hiring people, sent out some resumes , and attended some interviews. I found a place that I targeted that was/is pretty much what I am already doing. Dropped my resume, attended two interviews and a phone interview. The manager told me several times that I am the guy he wants.

I got an offer today. Upsides, closer to the house, more money, better(blue cross, blue shield)insurance, and a guy with confidence in me.

Two weeks ago at the current employ, the meeting involved a guy(high up of some kind) that had the theme of "if you aren't happy, you should quit and do something different".
I got called to the carpet and told not make comments in the meetings as I seemed to cause a pile on and somehow that is my fault? Sounded like to me he needed to control the scene better. Then last Friday I got called into his bosses office and got jammed up again, and the boss mentioned the meeting about that meeting and if unhappy, I should think about it really just blew my mind.

I really like what I do. Gonna take the offer. Just really could not believe their was a meeting where they pretty much told me they didn't want me. Just mind games I guess. Well off to prepare my letter of notice.

Bottom line, I am getting a great new job . I start on the 18th.

Life is too short do work somewhere you don't like. After 31 years at a company I liked working at, a foreign company bought them out and everything changed. Now most there hate the place, I told a person still there yesterday, everyones attitude is just a reflection of the companys attitude toward it's workers.
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

Sounds like excellent advice. I thought about a thank you or two but I think you are right. I'll keep it simple. I was going to use the back of the write up but the wife told me that wasn't a good idea either.

I am actually off mon-wed so I will make a trip down there Mon to do it in person.

Not a hell of an employee, I have a poor attitude according to them. I explained that when hired their carrot on a stick quarterly bonus hadn't been received and got a bunch of excuses. The new job bonus is monthly based on profit, I do have to be there a year but we are going on two years at current with no bonus. So I gave up on that pipe dream.

I could only think of a few down sides. I get to park in a fenced area at current, new is in a "different" part of town so no fenced parking. I get to bring ice from the ice machine at current, didn't ask of I could do this at new or if they even have an ice machine.

I concur with above, life is too short to work at a place that makes you miserable. I like the people at the current, just poor management that won't even listen to my suggestions. Oh well their loss.

                I am moving forward!

I've never really understood those who wallow in misery. I gave it a year, obviously it isn't going to change so it is up to me. I found better pay, better benefits and closer to the house. They really should reassess their games if they intend to retain top talent.

I've been with them over 18 months, I have never called in sick. I stay as long as they ask. I complete the on call rotation when my time rolls around. Last day I actually took off was drag week day at the motorplex. I took my son out of school and we made a day of it. It was great.

I think it is great when anyone tries to improve them self whether by self improvement or a new job. I have found not all employers feel this way. It has been a while since I worked for a place that steady tries to knock down their employees. Their loss.

The good ones quit, and the bad ones get fired. The "in-betweens" stick around.

The management at your old job sounds like the same bad story I have heard several times the last 10 years. Much of the new, younger management nowadays act like they smoked too much crack when they were younger. My wife's was the same way at BofA. Unless you were one of their clique, they were petty and vindictive and treated the employees like expendable pieces of meat.

Good luck on your new job. There is no reason to stick around and be treated with disrespect.

I dropped notice on them this am. So far I have fielded three calls from them.

They act like it is such a suprise. Oh well, spring break, I'm off Mon-wed, we will be doing things with my children. Third call involved them wanting me to come at 10 Thursday and bring their property. No prob. Looks like ill have the rest of the week off then. Plenty of stuff to do. New job starts Monday.
