  • Made a decision and what a releif

For the last few weeks I have been looking to work at a different hospital and move on. Had a couple great offers and could not make a decision between the two. I had talked to multiple coworkers, other people, etc and no one could come up with one being better than the other.

In the end, Trauma ICU here I come. The other offer was 7E ICU at UT Southwestern. Taking a slight pay cut but the experience and knowledge will outweigh the difference. Now I have to break the news to my boss who wont be happy she is losing another worker.

Congrats on the step forward, knowledge gained is never a bad thing even despite a cut in pay.

Congrats. When I got out of law school I could have gone to a big firm, gotten paid handsomely and worked my ass off, but probably wouldn't have seen any real action in the courtroom for the first couple years. Instead, I went to work for my dad's small law firm and got a ton of experience right away. In fact, the first Monday I reported to work, a lawyer in the office handed me a file and told me I had a hearing on Thurs and not to mess it up. I would bet that in my first 2 years of practicing law I got more experience and knowledge in and out of the courthouse than most young lawyers get in 4-5 years.

All of that is to say that getting good experience and the knowledge will make you better at what you do and will open doors down the road. Good choice.

Congrats! Any reason you prefer ICU over ER?

I may be pursuing CRNA school in the next year or two. I have worked ICU for the last couple years. I enjoy having true sick patients vs the bs of a typical ER. I do work ER at my current job from time to time to help out.

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I know a crna, always seemed like a really boring job compared to what you do in a ICU. I worked in the ICU sometimes, I hated it personally. I liked med surg and a night with 16 beds full. Made 12 hours go by fast.

                Congrats on the new job.

Did they give you funny looks pulling up to your first hearing in your yellow Lambo?

Working ICU I have become jaded and am tired of bedside care. It is a different ball game from medsurg but you get stuck with more "do everything to save my 95 year old great grandma with 3 types of cancer and has coded twice". CRNA is a good see the patient before, they sleep for a while, you wake them up, give them some pain meds and move on.

                      The pay helps too
