They aren't cold calls when they know me by name! Unless you're referring to sluts.

I mean I don't knock doors, don't do crap over the phone. Leads come to me through various sources, so when I go meet with someone, they are expecting me, and they have a need. I'm not trying to put a hard sell on someone for something they don't need.

Sales was the best option for me when I got into it (on my own without a car, place to live, any support, and just a high school diploma). Started making relatively good money, and just kept going. Sometimes I regret not going to college and trying to do something else that I would enjoy more, but it is what it is. Even with a college degree and a job that I'd love (park ranger, for example), I wouldn't be able to make anywhere close to what I can make doing sales. But ya, sometimes I would rather have that perfect job more than the money.

Also, having tried a few different industries, I can say that it helps a lot if you actually believe in what you're selling.

Absolutely. Customers can tell when you don't care. As a salesman, you have to buy in 100%.

Or at least pretend you're in 100%...

That has been the toughest part for me, leaving a "career" to go back to school. I decided to go into marketing/sales because I enjoy sales; as long as it is something that I believe in and I can help people by selling it. It took a lot of different experiences for me to realize what I really wanted to do, but I know I can accomplish what I want and I am going to do it.

Same as the above, but I actually enjoy a bit of cold calling every now and then. I don't do much, as I have an inside sales person that does all of that for me.

What company are you with, if you don't mind?

I refuse to answer this question on the grounds that it may incriminate me at a future date.

If you really like the product you are selling it's easy and enjoyable, if you don't you wont last long. I do sales in the oil & gas industry and it's a little different. It's fun and different, it just sucks my territory is about 8 counties wide and driving is a lot of my job.

Nope, don't regret it one bit. Speaking of, I have to check on my partners golf game on Friday, thanks for reminding me.
                                This.

I am posting from Innisbrook Golf Club in Florida actually, we're here for our annual top performers sales conference. I opted for an hour massage on Friday instead of golf though, my game isn't good enough to be able to enjoy a PGA course yet, and I am in dire need of the stress relief.
