  • Should I keep it? Pic added.

I've had my 1990lx for 8 years now and have driven it 3 times. It had a spun bearing so I tore it down for a complete rebuild. I'm at the point where I have realized I don't have any motivation for finishing it. I can't decide if I want to just finish it or part it out? I always find a reason to keep it in the back burner, I would just hate to finish it and not be happy with it. What would you guys do?

I would contact Whiteboy to see what he would give you for it. Sounds like it's just taking up space.

Sell it to Mike. He's starting a collection of cars that don't run.

I was in your same position in 2008. When i realized the "brand new tires" it had essentially dry rotted, i got out. A dead project is just dead- let it go.

If you get rid of it in its current state you will hate yourself later. My Grand National has been sitting since 2004 (inside a garage and with a cover) with spun mains/blown turbo but I finally got the ball rolling about 3 months ago on a rebuild I've been planning since around 05. Finally have the assembled shortblock at the house (full roller conversion with forged pistons, girdle, steel roller timing set, blueprinted/balanced) and am starting the final assembly and install in the coming weeks. I considered parting ways with the car a few times over the last few years but reached the conclusion that I would hate myself forever if I did....so I sold my NICE 94 Trans Am and decided to focus on the car that was actually WORTH something. Get motivated and go fix the damn thing.

its just a mustang, easily replaceable should the urge arise down the line.

                      Agreed.

I know quite a few folks with "gonna-fix-it's" in their possesion, and they aren't even slightly motivated. If you're not itching to drive it now, sell it and move on, you'll thank yourself later.

I've got an 86 SVO with half the exhaust put on and a pile of go fast parts in the garage. I also have a 72 Buick Riviera with a broke 455. I am now racking my brain on which car to keep or sell, so I know how you feel. It comes down to whats it worth to you. If you sell it not running you're not going to make shit, but it's gone. If you finish it, you will get more if you sell, but spend more time and money getting there. You might also find that if you fix it up to sell, you may end up deciding to keep it after all.
Get it running if you can, then make up your mind.

What's the point of keeping a project car that you don't want to work on? On top of that, don't put money into a car that won't be returned. Just unload it

I've been in your shoes for a long time. I finally sold my coupe to Don. I've seen your car and it is not bad. Just think hard before you sell it to make sure it is for the right reasons.

I recondition headlights on most cars for $50.00. If interested shoot me a pm.
