Well. Come to find out they live a couple blocks away. Laptop is tracked once reported stolen. Elert came in. Cops said to meet them at the house.

They stashed it when they showed. Cops found stuff with his wife's name and address and they still didn't make arrest. What the fuck?

Just because stolen property was found at a location does not mean that whoever was present at the time the police arrived at that location is guilty of committing the burglary.

People here bitch and moan about police abusing authority, but in this case if the police would have made arrests without an affirmative link or probable cause, it would have been OK?

An investigation will be done, and if there is sufficient evidence to warrant an arrest, a warrant can be issued. But until then, if police misconduct occurs, it can taint the case and ruin any chance of prosecution.

Wouldn't the OP be considered an eye witness to charge these punks? Was there any finger prints left at the scene?

I highly suggest a home monitoring system to any home owners that don't have one. It's fairly inexpensive and it provides added security that most punks don't know how to get around.
