Anyone have any idea how the race tracks do it? Eagles Canyon in decatur has track announcements on an FM station that we tune in on the radio in our campers so we can hear them without being outside.

Some of the newer ones do multipoint (4 unit conference) but the range is limited to about 1000 yards Line of Sight. Anything between you and them and that can get cut down to less than 100 yards.

It seems as though AM will be your better option. Typically, the max range of a "legal" FM transmitter is about 200 meters.

Here's a link with some decent info and it also mentions an AM transmitter that will hit 2 miles. It's called the Rangemaster 1000.

Your buddy might have to look into repeaters, but I would imagine that lurks back into the illegal side of radio transmission.

Not sure why the request was so hard to understand.. Lol

                        Check this out: http://www.dagcoelectronics.com/stor...ransmitters-1/

Not sure on range but in the description of the RangeMaster 1 W:

Open-air broadcasting/communication: Car Shows, Fairs, Carnivals, Firework Shows, Concerts, Outdoor Events (Fishing, Marathons, Walkathons, Motorsports)

Portable broadcasting: Sporting Events, Weddings, Music DJs

Drive-by Broadcasting: Christmas Displays, Mobile Billboards, Home/Real Estate Sales, Scenic/Historical Informative Tours

Permanent broadcasting: Churches (Hearing Disabled/Multi-Bilingual Communication, Remote Listening Solutions), Homes (broadcast your music throughout your whole house/whole yard--for real!), Businesses/Schools (communicate across long ranges, communicate/market to your customers in the parking lot)

                        * Transmit range can be greatly affected by Antenna Tuning and Environmental Factors.

                          this ^^^^

                          Plus:
Get a large external antenna. Size matters. Get a 1/4 wave or better.
Make sure your antenna clears most obstructions. FM is mainly line of sight.
Keep the coax length between transmitter and antenna as short as possible. What the antenna giveth, the coax taketh away.

Get the transmitter in a central area, and as high as you can. X10 on the coax the loss at 100 meg range is huge. If you cant get away with out it use 9913 or if its a perm thing 1/2 hard line. They make a 2 meter amp that can be tuned down to the fm radio area, but the FCC frowns an that stuff, and can get VERY costly. Am is going to be your best bet for range. AM is in the short wave part of the band.

Also if you or some one close has any skill to put a kit together. Might try frys think they have a few kits, or radio shack might also.
