  • FM Transmitter for 1-2 mile Radius range

Some friends of mine are doing a Paint ball event and want to be able to transmit "updates and instructions" to all players.. It will need about a 1-2 mile radius reach on a pretty much flat area.

We want to be able to transmit 1 person at a fixed location over the area.. any thoughts / ideas on the gear required to do this? we will have a generator to power it so electricity isnt an issue..

come on you know it all mother fuckers.. post up some gear needed and how to's!

the goal is not to use 2 way radios.. there will be people who have normal radios only ( like in a car or a hand held radio) and they want to be able to transmitt music too during a breaks.

it has to be either an AM or FM transmitter able to hit 1-2 mile radius.

Look into the transmitters that are used for Christmas light displays.

            An FM Modulator/Transmitter might work...

You might run into a legality issue though.

I'm talking out my ass a little here, because I'm not real educated on the subject. However, one time I became a little obsessed with getting a good FM transmitter for the car. You know, to play music/etc from a phone to radio.

Turns out, you can modify things for more power but by default they make the power output really low due to FCC type regulations.

I'd ASSUME the same applies for what you're trying to do. Is this a full time thing that you need it for or just every so often? If full time, it may require licensing/permits etc to do what you want.

Again, talking out my ass a little - but probably still applies somewhat.

It honestly might be cheaper to use a PA system with loudspeakers placed throughout the area. Plus you wont have to worry about any FCC stuff

A few cheap CB sets hooked to loudspeakers?

We've used a low power FM transmitter at our boat races before to broadcast announcements to spectators and participants through their car/truck radios... works pretty good, coverage was about 1/4 mile radius...

                        wasn't too expensive either.

I knew a guy in High School that built a FM transmitter that could take over any FM freq for about 2 square miles. I know he got a kit to do it, but not sure how he got the range out of it. He would go out on Forrest and play all kind of messed up shit over peoples radios.

Yeah, they tend to get kinda pissy. The whole "pirate radio" thing.

I heard it, I heard it, I heard it on the X...
