Didn't Porsche try this and fail? I'm not saying a vette is comparable to a Porsche, but creating a cheaper version kind of cheapens the status symbol it implys.

Are you talking about the 944 or boxter? They kinda saved Porsche...

i dont know why its so "amazing" that a vette will suddenly be SUB 50.. you could pick up a new 1lt base C6 for mid 40s.. hell i paid 37 for my 08 fully loaded coupe in 09... and suddenly its a celebration that its below 50?

I didn't know that. I thought Porsche had a model from the 70/80's people called the poor mans porsche which was discontinued.

That's what I was thinking. I will be curious to see what they do, but if it's not sub $40k fresh on the floor, then they'll be sitting for a while.

yeah, there have been several "poor man's porsche" that have put them back in the black. 914,944, boxter, etc.

I'm a no frills guy, and I love power. Hell I wish they still made cars with manual windows, and door locks. Those never brake, and weigh less.

That is why my Buick sports no pwr locks, no pwr seat and pwr windows by Armstrong.

I could get with a Vette like the original big tank z06. Stripped down race car. Big Brakes, top power plant, 6 speed to row. No conveiniece though I might except for A/c this Texas after all and I would want to drive it in the summer.

It also has power windows and locks, keyless remote entry, air conditioning, cruise control, etc. It's not like it's a "stripper" with no sound deadener, pull-up windows and heater delete, but it is a pretty basic car. It's $4k less than a Premium GT.

I think it's a cool idea, minus the janky motor... sorta like a C7 FRC... I heard the original FRC didnt sell for shit and was only 400 bucks less than a normal Coupe, which seems to go against the whole idea of saving money on a low cost Vette (400 bucks isnt shit, needed to be 4+ grand)... If its 45-47k I bet they sell a lot of them if the base car is 53ish as speculated.

At first I thought this could be bad idea. But I think it could work if modeled something like the 911 & 911 S. 50hp less but able to get the options you want. The only thing is the cost between the base 911 and S is 15,000. Im not sure how much Chevrolet could cut out by offering the 5.3 as the base engine. 5-6K less if the stingray is 53K to start?

Most Vette guys I talked to were true gearheads, even the older guys. I even parked a C5 that had heads/cam/cage/etc, and this was in ~2000. The wannabe snobby guys were the ones that drove Boxsters! The guys that can barely afford them don't buy them new. They are the guys buying the base C5/C6 automatics in undesirable colors combos(i.e. CHEAP).

there is, or was, a Nostalgia Nights car show every Friday here in Arlington where lots of Vette guys would show up. Pretty much all of them were like the guys he was mentioning. Just stuck up vette owners.

I'm an old guy, I can crank the windows up n down but I don't want to go with the 260 air. A compressor doesn't take that much power and the aerodynamics of the windows up the mileage becomes a wash.
