I even parked a C5 that had heads/cam/cage/etc, and this was in ~2000. The wannabe snobby guys were the ones that drove Boxsters! The guys that can barely afford them don't buy them new. They are the guys buying the base C5/C6 automatics in undesirable colors combos(i.e. CHEAP).
I can't put my finger on why it was the case for me, other than I was a valet at a hotel (have no idea if that had any bearing on the situation), but most of the Vette guys I came across were like 4bangen described. Not all, but most. Porsche guys were worse, Jaguar guys were even worse than the porsche guys, and the worst I ever encountered was actually a PT cruiser guy who had it all riced out.

Brilliant idea. Get the Corvette into the hands of more people. Sounds lightweight, fast, and fun.

I think it's funny that all the cheeseheads around here that go on and on about Fox bodies would have a problem with this concept.

How about just making one without all the bells and whistles. Like a stripped down model, MT or AT whichever is cheaper, no leather (seats or dash), no premuim colors, different wheels, different brakes, wet sump (instead of dry) and no Stingray.

I could get behind that. I wish you could find a new mustang stripped down to AM/FM radio, cloth manual seats, v6 wheels, ect. ect... but with the 5.0 in it, kind of like the old 5.0 lx coupes. I'm a no frills guy, and I love power. Hell I wish they still made cars with manual windows, and door locks. Those never brake, and weigh less.

You can. It's called the 'base' GT, lol.

lolz, like a Vette is some sort of unobtainable exotic. His Pagani must have been in the shop.

Every GT I've seen comes with 18" wheels, "shaker something" sound system, power driver's seat, bla bla bla.. I'm talking more of a street legal cobrajet, without the big nasty motor or cage. I wonder how much less it would cost if they left out the sound deadener, carpets, back seat, a/c, and all the other nick nacks, and just plopped a stereo and two speakers. Hell they would probably up the damned price.

                      You could get a '13 300a for about 25-26k. I saw 12s as low as 24.

It's not as stripped as your description, but it is cloth seats, low grade wheels, basic stereo (AM/FM/CD), and base model front and rear fascia.

Makes me wonder why people still buy 03/04 Cobras.

I'm kind of wishing I got both those options now, but the Shaker Audio is nice.
