Me personally & other's from watching other people. If a person asks $100 for a item, Im going to automatically offer $50 for it. Thus meeting in the middle at $75 for said item. I dont consider offering half of what someone is asking lowballing.

Would you consider offering $10K for a $20K car lowballing?

It depends. Is what he's selling, usually selling for that? If it used and started at $200, $100 used is likely good. When I sell stuff on CL, I list the price it should sell for, not some marked-up bullshit price. The low balls usually get ignored, or an answer back like "I'll take my asking price", and very seldom have to call them a fucktard.

I'm not sure I would give anyone a false address, but I've had had a couple of cheap bastards that made me think they deserve things like that.

I had a dude that begged me to bring a set of wheels to him. Since he didn't try to dick me on the price before I left, and he was a sales manager at a local Ford dealership (no it wasn't Skip) I figured what the hell. Maybe I'd get a good contact for Ford stuff in the future if I needed it.

Sure as shit, as soon as I get there and unload four FLAWLESS wheels/tires, he starts hemming and hawing, figuring he would be able to spot some reason he could talk me down on price - AFTER I delivered the fuckers to his shop!

"Well I've only got $this much$ cash on me, will you take that?"

I didn't say a word and started loading them back in the car. He had to hit up two other people to get the scratch together before I drove out of there.

However, I did end up getting my asking price.

Like others I put fair prices on stuff, and will ignore the low ballers unless the item has been for sail for a while and I just want it gone.

I did have one guy I sold a mac book to call me on the way home and say, "uh, hey man, you mind if I return this and get my money back?"

I said, well it works right? He said yes. I said, well my ad was clear and the item was 100% as described was it not? He said yes. I said sorry man, a deals a deal. Click.

                yep!

Its standard when doing business off the internet. Most people will list their price knowing their going to get lowballed. There is a fair price for most items & that price is in the middle most of the time.

I wouldnt think $15k for a $20k asking price is a bad sell if we met at 15k

I always pad my price a bit, but not double or anything. And I will usually offer a little less than asking as well, but again, not half. Negotiation is part of selling / buying used stuff. I also don't always counter an offer. In other words, if I'm asking $100 and a person offers $80, if that is acceptable I take it. I don't then say $90, just to scrape the last little bit of cash off the deal.

I do not get offended if someone offers some stupid low price, I just say no. Or the least I would take. I don't understand why that offends anyone. I understand getting irritated if you say no to an offer and they try to argue, but that is different.

As far as re-negotiating at the time of pick up, I only do that if the item is not as they described. For example, the last set of wheels I bought were described as "perfect" but when we met they has scratches and dings on the lip. I was was still interested in buying them in that condition, but my original offer was based on stated condition, so I offered less once I saw that he lied.

That is the only thing that really pisses me off about Craigslist.. Give a good and ACCURATE description of any issues. I have showed up to look at stuff that in far worse condition than described, and that really sucks.

See Seb, I think that's probably the difference between you & I...on the seller side I simply don't prefer to waste my time haggling on price, so I normally list stuff under the next cheapest one I can find, but I also clearly state that in my listings and that the price is firm....I can totally understand when someone just puts a price, hell yeah...it's open for offers, but when someone goes out of their way to be specific that they are firm on the price, and to not bother offering less, yet someone still does....that's just being disrespectful in my book.

I looked back and found my old listing on that fork lift....here's exactly what I said in the listing....

"....I've spent a bit of time researching similar units that are currently for sale, and the next closest one I could find is listed for $2500, but it is a 5000# unit, this one is a 6000# unit, therefore to avoid any haggle or BS I'm only asking $1700, but I am firm at that price. Please do not waste my time or yours by offering anything less than $1700. However I may be able to work with you on delivery."

.....Yet this dick offered $900. So I say fuck his gas, he needs a $3.70/gal lesson in respect. If I'm a dick for delivering that lesson....well...then I'm okay being a dick ...and I can sleep at night with that.

But just also think for a minute if I had been serious with this Dude too....not only did he disrespect me in the first place with the lowball price, but I also clearly stated he needed to be there by noon, yet he showed at 4pm. Obviously no regard for anyone but himself.

But you don't have to agree with my logic either man ....its all good.
