Sears has a 3 gal 125 psi compressor for $99.99. Is this a good deal? How useful will it be beyond airing up tires?

Totally depends on your use.. Would be okay for the smaller finish nail guns, staplers, or other uses that just require short bursts, but would be useless for real air tools, paint sprayers, and anything that would require a longer cycle of airflow.

What would you want to use it for? That is the real question.

That's my opinion on them too.. Hell, even my 26 gallon cycles on a lot when using an Impact.

Thanks for the input guys. I have never really shopped for compressors. It would be nice to run an impact or small hvlp spray gun, but in reality I may not have a need to do that or the facilities for some time. Most frequently, airing up tires, maybe a cut off wheel/die grinder

I was over at Tractor Supply earlier this week and they had a pretty decent 3-gallon tote compressor on sale for $49.99. Those small ones are good for nailers and such...maybe not a big framing type nailer, but great for the smaller finish nailers.

If you are looking for something to run air ratchets, impacts, etc....you need a lot more volume.

Just watch for sales.. I got the one below on sale for less than $200 from Sears.. May have been as low as $150, but I can't remember. 26 Gallon and it comes with an impact wrench, air ratchet and hose. Has worked great for me:

Again thanks for the recommendations. I dont really do anything where I would need an impact. It would be nice to have to break stubborn bolts loose, but not necessary. I am still pretty limited when it comes to major auto repairs where an impact would be useful, I'm still getting some minor discomfort since my back surgery. I will check out the small tank at tractor supply and watch for a bigger one to go on sale. Anything in particular to watch for or brand to stay away from? Don't expect it to get abused, but don't want to buy junk either!

Yeah, I can see that. Not a lot of torque to it so I have had to still use a breaker bar to loosen a couple of times, but I have used it a dozen times or so otherwise and it has suited me well.

I don't really have the need to go buy a high dollar fancy one. I consider this one a freebie, so it's better than nothing.

Only reason I have really "needed" it is for the strut towers on our old Acura, eliminates the need for trying to use a screwdriver to hold the strut from spinning.. For the most part I just use it for lug nuts.

Harbor Fright has decent, cheap breaker bars that will help immensely to get the stubborn bolts started. Less than $10 if I recall.

You need a big conpressor to run a die grinder or cut off wheel. I wouldnt waste your money.

Would the 26 gallon suffice? Those were just a couple of things I could think of that may be useful with some of the projects I have planned, mainly for cutting off bump stop brackets.
