but, with the tunability of direct injection and a free flowing exhaust, I think once you throw the EPA tune out the window, you might be able to find a couple MPG
you certainly can with a diesel... I realize it's apples to oranges, but the direct injection aspect opens up some good tunability, and although the turbos are VERY small, there's still going to be some margin for a little gain

I don't fit in Brittani's Accord as anything but the front passenger... I still have a couple old fox bodies, but I certainly prefer something bigger

Weight control is the easiest way to boost performance & MPG in a vehicle. Average fuel economy, industry wide..... peaked in 1989, ever since vehicles weights have gone up & MPG's have gone down.
Honda has actually stopped selling the Civic in Japan. It has gotten too big so the public there doesn't buy them. They are going after smaller vehicles like the Honda Fit or they aren't buying cars at all. The mass transit system in Japan pretty much makes it very possible to live without any car at all.

Coming from someone that is going to be buying a 2011 f150 those numbers suck. I think I'll pass on the extra $1750 the ecoboost is going to cost. The difference in mpg between the ecoboost and the 5.0 isn't enough to offset that price difference. Not to mention the fact that dealers are going to think the ecoboost is the best thing since sliced bread and will probably want a premium for it at first. $1750 buys about 600 gallons of fuel at todays prices so I think for the 1 or 2 mpg difference I'll buy the 5.0 and use the money I saved to buy some gas.

I'm not going to argue over which is the better engine (honestly, they're both great), you can make that decision yourself. But I wouldn't let the minor difference in fuel consumption be the only factor. Like was just said, the EB makes gobs of torque gown low, where you need it in a truck...
