  • 1978 home, things I should look for?

Found a pretty nice looking 1978 house in south arlington, usually I dont even look that old but this house has everything updated, both bathrooms, kitchen, floors.

On the outside it still looks aged greatly. I was reading and they said that they would disclose if lead paint was still in home. Any other questions I should ask during walk through?

Just hire a reputable home inspector. The good one's are invaluable in saving you headaches down the road.

What's the address on this one? I can probably tell you about the neighborhood. Lead paint shouldn't be a worry. You will however want updated windows and attic insulation unless you like monster electric bills. I like late 70s houses, my last one was built in 79 and my parents was 78. Seems like that was the end era of non-cookie cutter homes.

Hire an inspector, electrical being up to date is also very important.

is the address. Didn't think about the window and door leaking issue would have to check on that.

Nice area, will give you access to pretty much the 3 best schools in Arlington if you have kids, Corey Elementary, Boles Jr High, and Martin High.(they were when I was in school anyway) Pretty decent neighborhood, but it has been awhile since I was through there. Green Acres CT across Green Oaks is pretty shitty, but it's a really small neighborhood. Still only about 7 minutes from the Lake.

Watch out for aluminum wiring. I think most had gotten away from it by '78 but always worth checking for.

Be glad they didn't do worse things. Look it over closely. I live down and around the corner off park springs. Those are good schools. My middle two go to MHS. The little one is at wood. She went to corey in second grade before we moved over here.

How old is the roof? HVAC updated? If not is it functional? Look under all the sinks for signs of leaks and such. Brick vaneer/sheet rock cracking? Foundation issues? Good shrubs and such?

One thing you will definitely need to look for is new kitchen cabinets, a dishwasher, and a stove, at the minimum....

Unfortunately, a board member here did the same thing with a rental property owned by a friend of mine. They were being evicted, so they stole everything that wasn't bolted down.
