looking for my first DSLR. Looking to stay under $600. Bear in mind I'm going from cheap point-shoot and iPhone Galaxy S5 to this, so I really don't need something super crazy. I've found a lot of good reviews on the Nikon D3300, but realize I get many of the features I need in the slightly older D3200 and I can buy a D3200 bundle for $550. Is there anything else I should consider before pulling the trigger?
I'd like to add that I think the wifi option is a major plus as far as an important feature

Wifi is cool but in reality you'll be moving around 10+ gigs worth of data at a time if you shoot at a high resolution. People still take cards out and plug them into a computer to transfer data. To me it's not a selling point at all unless you are using it to do some kind of live feed somewhere. You can add the functionality with wifi SD cards anyway, no need to shop for a camera specifically for it in my opinion.
Now with Nikon though they have an app where you can use your phone as a controller and view finder through wifi so that could be cool.
The 3300 is a great starter camera, it'll do more than any amateur will ever need.

I'm with BP, I have both WiFi and GPS capability on my full frame and dont use either one. In fact they are kind of an annoyance because if I accidentally turn them on they kill my battery.
Nikon and Canon are both staples in the camera world and currently, IMO, they are the two leading makers. Getting an entry level Nikon D3*** or Canon T** will both take excellent quality images and are plenty of camera for you to grow into. Honestly its going to come down to A) Which one you get a better deal on and B) which one looks cooler/feels better in your hand. Dont get caught up in the Megapixel war, those numbers in the end really dont mean a whole lot, especially for what you will be using it for.
I currently shoot canon and started with a Nikon. They were both well made, good cameras. I busted my Nikon and went Canon because they have a sale and thats really it.

Just looked on Canon's main site and the have some incentives going on right now.
and here is the main listing incase you decide to extend your budget a bit
Their rebate service is pretty good, I bought a new lens earlier this year, sent in the rebate and had a 100 visa card within a couple weeks. MAKE SURE YOU SAVE THE BOX, they require the cut out UPC. You do not have to buy from Canon to get the rebate.

Dell is doing 12 months no interest financing on Canon stuff right now and most of them have a pretty hefty discount.
