we always run the numbers both ways... it sounds like this year, they're getting $500 back instead of paying $600

That's $1100 difference. You'd be a fool not to run the numbers both ways

      • I can't believe I'm about to do this, but here's a tip for your wife's taxes. As contract labor (1099) you'll find it less cumbersome to file taxes quarterly. She will do you both a great service by setting aside 30% from each paycheck to pay her quarterly taxes. If she handles her deductions properly, then the two of you will have a little extra mad money to dick around with.

Running the numbers both ways, single or joint, is the only way to do it. I'm not very fond of giving the gov't more than I have to.

        • thanks for the advice..

heres another question.. She is an architect and transitioned out of her full time role once she got pregnant. well she still stayed on and helped with drawings and what not and was just charging hourly for CAD work. after the baby she took time off and now she works sales for one of her old customers. she gets "bonuses" and commisions quarterly; will these come back as untaxed wages again this year? she only did the contract thing for 6-7 months last year and im hoping this will be the last year we have to pay in.

              • Yes, those will have to be taxed as income. I always kept 50% of my bonuses set aside. Granted, it never got taxed that bad. I just didn't want to be stuck getting fined on top of my taxes.

The two of y'all should research tax laws. As a contractor, there are lots of deductions that may be applicable. However, make sure not to push it or you will be audited. Places like H&R block will make it seem like you don't have to pay in or you might get a fat return. They do not cross check to see if you will be audited. They prey on the less informed to get the biggest percentage they can.

I was dating a black WM right before I left for Desert Storm. The war got in the way and we got different orders so Uncle Sam was the reason for the breakup.

I've never been one to discriminate due to color. Beauty knows no skin color.
True, I've dated a black chick before. I prefer a girl of other color though. But that is a different story.

If she was paid 1099 (no withholdings) then yes, will be taxed based upon annual income. As said above, she'll have quite a bit of deductions, but you need a CPA.

If W2 and anything was withheld, no.

Lol, I don't know what I'm missing here. If I land a job for $10k and I receive a check for $10k, I know taxes weren't taken out and I will owe it. Is it that hard?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Sometimes you have to dumb it down a bit, just giving advice based upon the questions asked.........
