Home broken into....need surveillance help

Where can I go to buy a video surveillance system? House was robbed earlier today. The initial phone call i recieved earlier had me under the impression that all of our electronics were stolen. Fucking thieves were only able to get away with 2 flat screens and some jewelry. Irving PD is useless "did you see who did it?" No you dumb fucks, no one was home. They forced their way in through the front door. There's no damage on the outside but then inside is fucked. Ive got someone fixing the door frame right now. I figure if it's time for video so we can catch these assholes in action next time this happens. If someone could lead me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it.

I bought a 8 camera Night Owl system for a couple hundred bucks at Micro center on 75 and George bush.(I only have 4 cameras but the DVR will handle upto 8 cameras) But I believe Fry's carries the same or similar brands. Mine is also connected to the web so I can view my cameras anyone from my iPhone
And it has a 500GB hard drive. The cameras either record all the time or with movement activation. I have mine always recording and motion activated flags the system so it LS easier fore to quickly look through the recording if I need to

I also have 1 audio recording camera at the front so I can hear anything that is said

This system also has the capability to use the cameras that can be moved by remote via a smart phone. ( pan, tilt and zoom)

I put these on my front and back door and added screen and rubber strips to the tops and bottoms, this way during the nice parts of the year we can open them and lock the dead bolts and let the breeze in.

They will not kick these in. And will think twice about your door and move down the block.

You aren't going to identify shit with those box camera systems at fry or what not. You are going to need to piece together a system.

The new hotness is megapixel IP cameras. but the 1.3 mega pixles aren't really that much better then 650/700tvl cameras. the 2.0 are still $200-300 a camera at minimum.

If you want to read plates, you need a 2.0mp or a special plate reading analog focused on one spot.

I have CNB cameras, and for the money($80 to $180 a pop) to me they are about the best in the price range for analog at night.

If you just want 4 cameras or so now, costco does have a q-see NVR setup with 4 720P cameras for $699 q-see NVR setup with 4 720P cameras for $699 This is not a high quality setup, but it will get you started with "HD" cameras.

If you are willing to piece together a full IP HD setup look into DAHUA junk. Not the highest quality, but that is about as cheap as you will get for HD.

I went with a Hybrid DVR that records HD IP and analago. I have a total of over 24 cameras now on my property just on the outside.

Check out Tiger Direct, they always have good deals on surveillance systems and alarms. Also look into some 4 legged protection. My 2 German Shepherds would not allow anyone in my house, and they are great with the family. There are lots of places to adopt full grown german shepherds that would protect your home and the people in there.
