  • How do you feel about turning your child loose on a cruise ship ?

Ok, so here's the deal. My wife and I are surprising our little girl that we're going on a cruise in two weeks. We have some good friends that have a daughter the same age as ours and a daughter two years older. They are also surprising their daughters with the cruise.

Our little girl and their youngest daughter are like two peas in a pod when they're together, so they will be together the whole time on the cruise.

I know there are children's programs on the ship, but I just recently got to thinking, what are we going to do while we are on the cruise the entire time ? I'm not planning on just letting her run around unattended the entire time, but I also don't want her attached to mine and my wife's hip for a week straight.

What have you guys/gals done in the past, and what would you suggest ? We have two way radios that we are taking to be able to keep in touch.

Attach a 15' orange flag to their hip so you can see them running around.

Step 1. Tell them to have fun and run around the ship
      Step 2. Get toasted.

We have been recomended to take the kids on a disney cruise, they have group activities to keep the kids entertained.

There's a reason certain cruises are geared for kiddo's.

I can't imagine letting my kids loose on a ship without me being in the area.

Ain't no way in hell would I let my kids run around unattended on a ship. My wife says I'm to overprotective but there is just to much shit that could go wrong.

if they're in their teens, I don't see an issue with it. If less than that, I wouldn't want to let my kids loose to interfere with other shipmates trying to enjoy a vacation.

After just getting back from a cruise....depending on the age..I would not "turn them loose". Way to many people of ALL backgrounds walking around. Besides the old pervs, you have a large number of older kids "playing" with kids much younger than they would "hang out" with at home. Just because you are out in the middle of the water and they can't really go anywhere...does not mean they are 100% safe.

I wouldn't be taking a cruise. With all the bad shit that has gone down lately on cruise ships I've put them in the same category as charter buses. You'll never see my white ass on either.

                            How old are the kiddos?

Most kid programs on board are adult supervised by staff with planned activities, leaving mom and dad time to do whatever they want.

Getting out on the road to get to the ship is more dangerous than being on the ship. Rooms were much cleaner than a lot of the hotels you find. Staff is much nicer than you will find anywhere. Sites you can't see by bus or car.

But with all that said....I would not say a cruise is the "best vacation" you can have. The Alaskan cruise was 1000 times better than the Caribbean cruise. Yet the sites around the pool were much better on the Caribbean cruise....lol
