  • Trucks and Toddlers... how'd it work for you?

My wife and I are expecting our first kid in May, and we're currently car shopping.

She wants a Tundra, which I'm cool with, but my concern is her lifting our son and car seat up that high. My wife weighs 105 soaking wet and I think this will get old for her, really fast. The truck would be her everyday car.

Anyone else have a full size truck and young kids? If so, does your wife manage OK? Would you do something differently if you did it over again?

I don't want to drop $30k on a truck, only to have to sell it and buy something else a short time later.

I think lower is worse than higher. My wife is 5'5" and the RDX height is perfect. We've had rental (focus size) cars and getting the seat in and out was much harder on our backs.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Agreed, my wife prefers to load the car seat in my truck as opposed to her car, says it hurts her back more to bend over, than having to climb in the truck after putting the car seat in the back seat.

Friends who have kids just "perma" installed the carseat in the back seat.

Wasn't like the car was going to be used to take the boss to dinner or anyother major passenger use.

My truck is lifted, but still reasonable to put the kiddos in and out of.

My car sucked, to Damn low. My wife has a highlander that works well. Get the biggest back seat they have, rear facing car seats take up a ton of room.

Supercrew and a 7 month old works like a charm. Getting him in the bronco is easier through the tailgate though. Lol

A lot of seats now simply click out of the car, and click onto a stroller. Saves you from having to wake up the kid to transfer them. I can't believe I'm learning this shit

Hell yeah, I'm so careful when getting my daughter out so she stays asleep. But she just moved up into a bigger car seat that stays in the car so I dread having to wake her.

My wife prefers the truck to a low slung car because it's easier to get the carseat and kiddo in and out.

My wife drove my 4X4 Dodge Cummins extended cab with no problems.

My supercrew has been awesome, as was previous trucks....

Smaller cars are worse to maneuver car seats in and out than larger, higher vehicles.

I would not worry so much about the height of the truck. Like said before, rear facing seats take up a ton of room. Make sure you get something that doesn't require you front passenger seat to have to be all the way up and out of service because there is no room.

Depending on the kid, you are going to be using a rear facing seat for maybe a year.

See if you can find a good used Pontiac Aztec.

I would suggest a nice Chevy conversion van.
