  • The other problem that arises with my back issues is that a lot of the "entry level" jobs to get experience inside of a lot of companies where my degree could be a springboard into the office have physical requirements outside of my current capabilities

I keep trying to convince myself to go back for a masters degree. In all honesty, at times I wish I had been one of the kids in school who didn't make good grades, I feel like I would have been better off. Instead, I was one of the bright kids, that teachers saw tons of potential in. Now staring down the door to 30, I feel like I let all of them down and have yet to do anything of great significance with my life

The two things holding me up are finances and just feeling lost. Not knowing what direction to take. I would like to build on my physics degree but feel an MBA might be more employable. I am $27k in debt for a degree I got at a juco/university that hasnt gotten me any further along than when I started, I am rather convinced that I would be farther along career wise had I not gone to college. I am certain I would be much more stable financially.
I enjoyed the Physics and the math. It challenged me mentally which I liked, though those academic challenges haven't resulted in real world benefits. So do I go to grad school, tack on another 15-20k plus in student loan debt and have two 6 figure pieces of toilet paper and still unable to get out of retail because I have been here so long? I definitely can't afford grad school on my salary/budget

              • I have found that I would need to take a lot of BS level courses due to my narrow focus with my Physics degree. (major in physics, minor in math) I was only one class from having a double major. Looking back I should have focused on computer science and not the double major. I have about half of the course work out of the way for a BS in industrial engineering. My total number of attempted hours for a BS program eclipsed the max percentage to be able to receive financial aid. I would have finished that program with a degree in IE, math, and Physics. Hell I have gotten more recruiting calls based on a pending graduation in IE statement on online resumes than I ever got without that on there

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

                      • Kimmypie, completely off topic but do you live in the Saginaw area, there's a '13 Mustang with the same wheels and color down my street.

To the OP, another off the wall idea but have you looked into overseas contracting? There are jobs available that require little to no experience and the networking out here can get you a long way. It doesn't pay what it used to but it can easily get you out of debt and put enough in your bank account to give you some peace of mind while job searching at home.

                          • Good luck with the potential job opportunity. I went from job to job over the years to end up where I'm at. I did have to start off with a low pay rate but after 5 years i make a decent income, not $$$choo$$$choo but its enough for me. I know it can be stressful going from job application to job application, interview to interview with no end in sight. There has been some good advice given in here. Don't be afraid to let potential employers know what you feel your skill set is worth. I'll keep an ear open for anything out there for you Russell.

You mean from town to town on your tour bus? It sucks that you guys were more of a one hit wonder. You were awesome when you opened for Carlos Santana.

Shit, I wish it was an issue of interview to interview. This has been the only solid interview opportunity I've had since graduation. Granted I've had interviews. One was for internet sales at a car dealership, one was for a bar manager position, and the other was for a receiving position at Cavender's.
