I am every bit a family man, and even when putting myself in the parents shoes I can't get behind him sitting in jail without income for almost a year while I get on with my life, and my child is no worse for the wear. He slapped the kid once for fucks sake, it wasn't a beat down.

Give him a huge fine, community service, and let me beat his ass daily for a week, but 8 months in jail is harsh for the crime.
